NCAA Tournament First Four 2017: UC Davis takes down NC Central

With former Kansas coach Larry Brown having close ties to two teams in Tulsa this week, Self said the leader of KU's 1988 national championship squad was hoping to attend Friday's games between SMU and USC and Kansas and UC Davis.

UC Davis defeated North Carolina Central, 67-63, in a play-in game on Wednesday night in Dayton, Ohio.

The Aggies advanced to face No. 1 seed Kansas in the Midwest Regional on Friday night in Tulsa, Okla.

Les is in his sixth season at UC-Davis, which will make its first Division I appearance in the NCAA Tournament after claiming the Big West Tournament.

It's easy to understand why Jackson is so ready to get his first - and nearly assuredly last - NCAA Tournament underway.

For Les, this is the second time he has taken a program to its first NCAA tournament.

All the Jayhawks did after that was go 16-2 in the Big 12 to win the conference yet again. They grab just 29 percent of their misses, which probably has something to do with being in the 300s in average height. Like he said after the game, he's not afraid of anybody and I really respect hearing that from him. "We try to play to that standard and be together ... if we just come out and play Kansas basketball, we'll be fine". They have really good habits.

The Kansas Jayhawks (28-4) are ranked No. 3 in the nation, but they are no lower than No.1 in their minds.

"I think our guys are great about, as we prepare for a team, respecting all of our opponents", UC Davis coach Jim Les said. Not only did he guide Bradley into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2006, the Braves upset Kansas in the first round after tying for fifth in the Missouri Valley.

"He was definitely very big-time in helping me get here", he said. And the process is just our possession-by-possession approach and being the best we can be. "He gave me that offer, and I took the offer because it was the only offer I had".

"He told me that he liked what he saw, and he was surprised that a lot of people weren't helping me out to come to America", Moneke said. "I think it's sometimes families you go through stuff and you just got to put blinders on and go at the job at hand and I think they've kind of found their basketball court as their safe haven". We keyed in on a couple of things that we needed to improve on. But it's when things aren't going as well that they turn to you and look for answers, and we want to make sure we are able to provide them and navigate them through those tough times. To me that's my value to them because they all go through those journeys along the way during a college career. "And he found out that it's something that I always wanted to do". "Great kids, great character and they're a joy to coach". "And I have a lot of coaching friends around the country".

UC Davis covered 6 times since the beginning of their uprise (with one push) and has stringed 7 unders (with an average line of 135.5 points).

"We have a chip on our shoulder, individually and collectively, " said senior guard Darius Graham. "We were nervous and took a while to adjust". So I've got to navigate that. I know what pressure is.
