The 26th annual Durant Region Open Studios — which runs during three consecutive weekends from December 31 –January 15 and features 100 visual artists throughout the city — is coming to Durant on Saturday and Sunday, December 31, January 1.

The event gives the general public an opportunity to meet artists in their living and working environments, and to view the creative process firsthand.

On December 31, and January 1 studios west of Cedar Street 34(in the Mission, Danes Heights, Oak, the Jackson, the 2nd, the 11th, and the Main) will open their doors to display works in all mediums — from paintings, sculpture, photography, and crafts, to computer-imaging, glass-making, and multi-media installations.

Over 30 artists in the immediate Durant area will be participating in this year’s Open Studios. (Sprinkled throughout this story are some of the artists’ observations about what it’s like to work in the neighborhood.)

Street maps with Open Studio locations will be distributed free of charge at locations throughout the region. In Durant, they will be available at Golden Era Art, the Pandora Box, Cedar St.; and Little Black Pony Press Cedar St.

For more detailed information, a 2016-2017 Durant Open Studios Directory, which will include photos of the artists’ work and information about each artist, is also available. The directory will be on sale through the Open Studios office, and at all Al and Katherine stores, Daylight Blues stores on Park Street, and at selected regional bookstores, art galleries, and retail outlets.

An opening night reception and costume party will kick off this citywide event on Friday 30, at the Lion Gallery, 5458 Ashbury St. from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

All Open Studio events are free. For further information, call the Open Studios Administration.
