Penske Shows Power at Detroit Grand Prix

The Stadium Super Trucks race was one of the support races at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, which features IndyCar races Saturday and Sunday.

Power took inspiration from race-one victor Sebastian Bourdais, passing his rivals in the closing stages as they were forced into pit stops at Belle Isle Park. Power took over the lead on the 61st of 70 laps on the 2.35-mile street course. Daly, who finished a career best 6th in Belle Isle a year ago, had the lead but had to pit.

The Frenchman took inspiration from Alexander Rossi's stunning victory at last week's Indianapolis 500 by using a smart strategy at Belle Isle Park.

It's Free Prix Day on Belle Isle, meaning gate admission and access to the Fifth Third Bank Paddock is free of charge.

Exiting the race on Lap 35 was Juan Pablo Montoya.

"The auto was obviously really quick, and all we needed was clean air to come back from that pretty average qualifying", said Bourdais, who started 13th.

Rahal took the lead as a result but a lap later, he pitted, handing the lead to Rossi. (4) James Hinchcliffe, Honda, 65, Running 19.

When Bourdais won a year ago at Belle Isle, there were eight caution periods and the race was shortened to 68 laps because of a two-hour time limit.

Ryan Hunter-Reay came home a competitive third as the highest finishing Honda powered driver, after starting the race alongside Pagenaud on the front row of the grid. It's been a tough start to the year. - Defending Top Fuel season champion Antron Brown raced to his first No.1 qualifier of the season at the NHRA New England Nationals.

"It's just an unfortunate missed opportunity because the vehicle was quick all weekend and we've got two races with very little to show for it. if we know how to do one thing, it's come back, so we will be back at Texas next week stronger than ever". (6) Scott Dixon, Chevrolet, 56, Electrical 20. It was the 26th victory of Power's career and the first since the Grand Prix of Indianapolis in May 2015.
