Koeman eyeing £15m Premier League star as ideal Stones replacement at Everton

Southampton had been looking for Everton to pay a compensation fee of £5m for Koeman and the Saints will now commence the hunt for a new manager.

In April, Saints chairman Ralph Krueger said discussions with Koeman over a new deal were progressing "in a very good direction", but added the club was "not in any real hurry".

Ronald Koeman has left life on the south coast with Southampton in favour of a move to the blue half of Merseyside with Everton, according to the BBC.

With John Stones being particularly error prone this year and also being touted to leave Everton, coupled with Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka's best years being behind them, Koeman is likely to reinforce his backline with additional talent.

Over the last couple of days this question has been doing the rounds across social media, with both sets of fans giving their two cents on the subject.

Everton have been without a manager since sacking Roberto Martinez just before the close of the 2015/16 season, even though the Spaniard guided them to an FA Cup semi-final appearance at Wembley.

Koeman led Southampton to sixth place in the Premier League last season, three points behind Manchester City and United.

The 29-year old is thought to be among a list of potential replacements for John Stones should the England global leave Merseyside this summer.
